In 2020, filmmaker Hansal Mehta made his debut in the digital space with “Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story.” This biographical financial thriller quickly became a huge hit for SonyLIV, earning critical acclaim and highlighting Mehta’s talent. Directed alongside his son, Jai Mehta, the series set a high standard for Indian web shows. Fast forward three years, and the franchise returned with “Scam 2003: The Telgi Story.” In this installment, Hansal took on the role of showrunner but handed directorial duties to Tushar Hiranandani. Now, as the franchise moves to its next chapter, “Scam 2010,” Hansal will step back into the director’s role, this time bringing on a new co-director.

Recent reports reveal that Sumit Purohit, a writer from the original season, will co-direct “Scam 2010” alongside Hansal Mehta. Purohit has a solid understanding of the series’ style and storytelling, making him an excellent choice for this role. He debuted as a director with the series “Saare Jahan Se Accha,” and he has also directed the upcoming satirical comedy-drama “Baaghi Bechare,” featuring Pratik Gandhi and others, which is set to release soon. His transition from writer in the first season to co-director in the new installment marks a significant milestone in his career.

“Scam 2010” will focus on the financial scandals related to Subrata Roy, the controversial founder of Sahara India Pariwar. The series stars Marathi actor Siddharth Bodke as Roy, with Kritika Singh, Moon Banerjee, and Aditya Srivastava also featured in key roles. Production for the show kicked off in late May and has taken place in various cities including Lucknow, Kanpur, Delhi, Mumbai, and Dehradun. The team aims to finish filming by mid-September, with plans for a global premiere on SonyLIV in early 2027.

Produced by Applause Entertainment and Birla Studios, “Scam 2010” will depict the rapid growth of Roy’s business empire and the ensuing legal conflicts he faced. Adapted from Tamal Bandyopadhyay’s 2014 book titled “Sahara: The Untold Story,” the new season will scrutinize the complexities of Roy’s public persona and delve into the intricate connections between markets, governance, and accountability in contemporary Indian finance.
