Vir Das has completed filming his latest project, Baara Number, marking his second venture as a director. This film is a found-footage psychological thriller that promises to offer a fresh and engaging storytelling approach. In this project, Vir takes on various roles, including director, producer, and actor, showcasing his diverse talents both behind and in front of the camera.

Co-produced by Naresh Malik, Jeff Lazarus, and Kaushik Srinivasan of Third Frame Studio, along with Kavita Gupta and Vir Das from Zazu Productions, Baara Number features a talented cast, including Sheeba Chaddha, Suhail Nayyar, Arunoday Singh, Ahsaas Channa, Atul Kulkarni, Niharika Lyra Dutt, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Puja Sarup, and Navin Kaushik, among others.

The film’s found-footage format plays a crucial role, allowing the story to unfold in a way that immerses viewers deeply in the characters’ experiences. This project signifies an adventurous step for Vir as he seeks to explore different storytelling styles beyond traditional formats.

Reflecting on the completion of filming, Vir Das shared, “Working on Baara Number has been an intense and fulfilling journey for me. Crafting a psychological thriller is already a detailed task, and incorporating the found-footage style added an exciting yet daunting layer to the process. Unlike conventional filmmaking, this style makes the camera a part of the story, making the audience feel like they’re discovering the narrative rather than just observing it. We constantly questioned if we were effectively utilizing this format and whether the performances resonated authentically.”

He also expressed his pride in the cast, stating, “The ensemble we brought together truly understands their craft and was open to experimenting. In a psychological thriller that hinges on performance and atmosphere, it’s essential to have actors who embrace the uncertainty of their roles. As a producer, I find great satisfaction in fostering an environment where creativity can flourish. Zazu Productions aims to tell unique stories, encouraging filmmakers and performers to take risks, and Baara Number embodies this vision.”

Vir acknowledged that finishing the shoot felt bittersweet. “After spending so much time with these characters and their world, letting go is tough, but I’m excited for the editing and post-production phase. I believe audiences will experience Baara Number in a manner unlike typical psychological thrillers. We aimed to create a narrative that feels immediate, unpredictable, and deeply engaging, all while staying true to character.”

With Baara Number, Vir Das continues to broaden his filmmaking journey, embracing a challenging genre and innovative storytelling while collaborating with a stellar cast. The film is set to immerse audiences in a tense psychological experience, drawing them right into the heart of the action.
