UK Prime Minister Appoints Gautam Rangarajan as Expert Advisor

In a recent announcement, UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has named Gautam Rangarajan, a media executive with Indian roots, as the ‘Expert Advisor on Structure and Process.’ Rangarajan brings a wealth of experience, particularly in corporate strategy and transformation.

The Prime Minister’s Office highlighted Rangarajan’s substantial background, stating, “Gautam Rangarajan has been appointed as an Expert Advisor on Structure and Process. He brings significant experience in corporate strategy and transformation.”

Who is Gautam Rangarajan?

Gautam Rangarajan is a former strategist for the BBC and a musician. He describes himself as a seasoned strategist and creative content producer on his social media profiles. With over two decades of expertise in media and public service broadcasting, he specializes in developing strategies in dynamic markets.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Cambridge and has completed a Non-Executive Director Diploma through the FT Board Director Programme. Rangarajan began his career as a trainee producer at BBC Radio Classical Music in 1993. Over the next several years, he worked his way up through various roles at the BBC, eventually becoming the group director of strategy and performance in 2013. He held this position until last year.

He is known for building relationships across different stakeholders, including governmental bodies, and adapting to global media trends. His expertise has earned him recognition for solving complex problems and guiding businesses through various challenges.

Burnham’s Commitment to Innovation

Since taking office, Prime Minister Burnham has shown a commitment to modernizing the government, including appointing Kanishka Narayan, another Indian-origin politician, as the first minister of artificial intelligence. Narayan, a Labour MP from Wales, previously served in the cabinet under former Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Originally from Bihar, Narayan moved to Cardiff as a child. He completed his education at Cathays High School, later earning a degree from the University of Oxford and an MBA from Stanford University.

This series of appointments reflects Burnham’s dedication to diverse leadership and embracing innovation within the UK government.
