Concerns Raised Over Flag Placement in Netflix’s “Operation Safed Sagar”
Colonel Vembu Shankar, an Indian Army veteran, has voiced serious concerns regarding a scene in Netflix’s “Operation Safed Sagar: The Untold Story of the Kargil War.” He claims that the Indian National Flag is incorrectly displayed on the coffin of Squadron Leader Ajay Ahuja in the series.
Shankar shared a screenshot from the show on Instagram, highlighting a moment where Siddharth, who plays Squadron Leader Ahuja, is depicted through the coffin being carried by characters portrayed by Mihir Ahuja and Abhay Verma. Mihir takes on the role of Flying Officer C.H. Bal Reddy, while Abhay portrays Flying Officer Rajpal Singh Dhaliwal.
According to Colonel Shankar, the positioning of the Tricolour on Ahuja’s coffin contradicts the Flag Code of India. He expressed disbelief that such an error passed through the production phase, especially with military advisors involved. “I am shocked how the authorities at the Service Headquarters and the military advisors could miss this,” he stated.
The veteran is calling for the show’s creators to recognize the mistake and apologize publicly.
This issue is particularly poignant given the true story of Squadron Leader Ajay Ahuja, who served in the Indian Air Force and was tragically killed during the Kargil War in 1999. He was posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra for his bravery.
“Operation Safed Sagar” delves into the role of the Indian Air Force during the Kargil War, focusing on the high-altitude operations that took place. The series features a talented cast, including Jimmy Shergill, Vinay Pathak, and Dia Mirza, among others.
As of now, the creators of “Operation Safed Sagar” have not responded to Shankar’s concerns. The issue regarding the flag placement remains the main point of contention.
