Joe Biden’s Cancer Journey: The Latest Update from Hunter

In a recent BBC interview, Hunter Biden shared that his father, former President Joe Biden, is facing challenges with his health due to prostate cancer. The illness has worsened since his initial diagnosis last year. Hunter described his father’s condition as “very painful” and mentioned it has “metastasized into his bones.”

“It’s really sad to watch,” Hunter said. He expressed concern for his father’s well-being, adding that he wishes his father would voice his discomfort more often, as the situation is serious.

Joe Biden, now 83 years old, first revealed his cancer diagnosis in May 2025 after a small nodule was discovered during a routine check-up. At that time, Biden’s office stated that the cancer was hormone-sensitive, which could help in managing the condition. The family was exploring treatment options with medical professionals.

Since then, the former president has undergone hormone therapy and completed radiation treatment in October 2025.

Understanding Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is a disease that affects many men, and the cases have been increasing over the years. According to the American Cancer Society, the rate of new diagnoses has grown by about 3% annually between 2014 and 2021. The projected numbers are staggering, with about 333,830 new cases expected in the U.S. in 2026, and approximately 36,320 men are anticipated to die from this disease.

Most diagnosed cases are in men aged 65 and older. Men under 40 are rarely affected. While prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men after skin cancer, early detection through regular check-ups can lead to better outcomes. Symptoms may include difficulties with urination or noticing blood in urine.

As men age, especially those between 55 to 69 years old, periodic screenings are recommended. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force emphasizes that discussing the benefits and potential risks of screening with a healthcare provider is important.

Prognosis and Survival Rates

For localized prostate cancers, the five-year survival rate is impressive, at least 99%. However, for cases where the cancer has spread, this rate drops significantly to 37%.

While there’s ongoing research for effective screening methods, including non-invasive urine tests, understanding one’s health and regularly consulting with doctors remains crucial for early detection and treatment.

Hunter Biden’s updates on his father’s health remind us of the importance of awareness and early intervention in cancer care.
