Jugal Hansraj Returns in Masoom: The Next Generation

Actor Jugal Hansraj is making a comeback to the beloved Masoom universe in the upcoming film Masoom: The Next Generation. This marks a heartfelt reunion with director Shekhar Kapur, more than forty years after Jugal first appeared in the classic 1983 film. The new movie will also bring back Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi, allowing fans to see their favorite characters once more in one of Hindi cinema’s most cherished family dramas.

Reflecting on Jugal’s return, Shekhar Kapur shared how meaningful this moment is. He said, “It feels beautiful to welcome Jugal back home—not just to a location, but to a story that has been cherished by audiences for years. Jugal was just a kid when we filmed Masoom, and seeing him return as a skilled actor is both emotional and fulfilling. Reuniting him with Naseer and Shabana shows that some connections extend beyond the screen.”

Kapur hopes that the new film will resonate with viewers in the same heartfelt way as the original did, capturing the essence of honesty and tenderness.

A Personal Connection to Masoom

Jugal Hansraj expressed that joining the new Masoom project was a simple choice when Shekhar reached out. “Hearing from Shekhar made me really happy. Masoom has been such an important part of my life. Even today, people recognize me as ‘that Masoom boy’,” he shared.

He noted, “Over 40 years have passed since the film’s release, yet it remains close to many hearts. People still stop me, even in New York, and tell me how their children and grandchildren enjoy ‘Lakdi Ki Kathi.’ They greet me as if I’m family.”

Jugal highlighted the special bond audiences have with the film, saying, “Masoom has truly found a home in people’s hearts. I’m thrilled to be part of this special story and family again. It feels like life has come full circle.”

The new film is positioned as a spiritual sequel to Shekhar Kapur’s 1983 classic, continuing to explore themes of family, identity, and evolving relationships through generations.

The cast includes well-known actors such as Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, Jugal Hansraj, Manoj Bajpayee, Nithya Menen, and Kaveri Kapur. Music for the film will be composed by A. R. Rahman, who is also involved as a co-producer.

Fans can look forward to this exciting new chapter in the Masoom legacy, filled with warmth and nostalgia.
