Alára Named One of the Best Fashion Stores in the World

A luxury store based in Lagos, Alára, has reached an impressive milestone by being listed as one of the Best Fashion Stores in the World by The Business of Fashion (BoF). This recognition reflects Alára’s commitment to showcasing African creativity on a global scale.

The latest BoF guide features 65 unique retailers from around the world that are changing the luxury shopping experience. Instead of ranking stores by size or profits, it emphasizes those that have developed their own identities through careful selection, amazing shopping experiences, and a distinct vision.

Founded by Reni Folawiyo, Alára opened in Lagos with the goal of merging fashion, art, design, and culture in one place. The store has gained a reputation for offering a thoughtful mix of well-known international luxury brands alongside some of Africa’s most innovative designers. This combination helps to elevate Nigerian fashion within the larger luxury market.

Beyond its selection of brands, Alára has transformed into a cultural landmark. Its stunning building, designed by renowned architect Sir David Adjaye, along with various exhibitions and initiatives supporting African artists, creates an experience that goes beyond simple shopping.

Being included in BoF’s prestigious list places Alára alongside some of the most respected fashion destinations worldwide, further highlighting Lagos as a center of luxury retail and creative innovation. This recognition also signals a shift in the fashion industry, where shoppers are increasingly interested in unique perspectives and authentic storytelling, often looking beyond traditional fashion hubs for inspiration.

As Nigeria’s fashion industry continues to gain attention, Alára’s achievement not only celebrates its own journey but also reflects the rising global interest in African creativity. It positions homegrown businesses firmly alongside some of the world’s most celebrated boutiques, showcasing the talent and potential of the continent’s vibrant fashion scene.
