Jamshedpur FC Players Urge Tata Group to Reconsider ISL Exit
Players from Jamshedpur FC have made an emotional appeal to their owners, Tata Group, asking them to reconsider the recent decision to withdraw from the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) season. This move marks the end of the club’s nine-year run in the top tier of Indian football.
The news has left the players feeling confused and shocked, especially as they continue to compete in the ongoing Durand Cup. Defender Pratik Chaudhari shared a heartfelt video on social media, expressing the team’s surprise at the announcement.
Pratik emphasized their loyalty to Tata Group, which they trusted due to its significant presence in Indian sports. He highlighted the team’s notable achievements over the past decade, especially in nurturing young talent through their academy.
“It’s been a shock for us since yesterday when we heard that the club is going to stop operations after the Durand Cup. We feel confused, angry, and worried about our future,” Pratik said. He added that many players chose to join Jamshedpur FC because of the Tata brand, believing it represented reliability and commitment.
The defender also spoke about the club’s successes, including winning the Shield championship and consistently striving for top positions in the league. He noted the positive impact on young players who have progressed to the national team, contributing to India’s football growth.
Pratik argued that Jamshedpur’s withdrawal would be a significant blow to Indian football, especially with aspirations for World Cup participation in the near future. He urged the Tata Group’s leadership to reconsider the decision, stating, “This isn’t just a loss for us; it’s a loss for Indian football as a whole.”
Senior player Pranoy Halder joined in, appealing for the club to maintain its legacy rooted in the Tata Football Academy. He stressed the importance of continuing to support aspiring players through the platform that Jamshedpur FC provides.
Why Did Jamshedpur FC Withdraw?
The club’s exit stemmed from complications regarding the payment of the required participation fee for the new ISL commercial framework. Even with an extension from the All India Football Federation (AIFF), the failure to make the payment ultimately ruled them out for the 2026-27 season.
While the club’s official statement didn’t directly mention the unpaid fee, it did highlight concerns regarding the revised participation structure as a factor in the decision. This development comes at a challenging time for Indian football, with ongoing issues related to governance and administration within ISL.
Founded in 2017, Jamshedpur FC quickly gained recognition as a well-managed club in the ISL, achieving their peak during the 2021-22 season when they claimed the League Winners’ Shield. They also have a top-notch facility, the JRD Tata Sports Complex, which serves as their home and training ground.
Despite stepping back from the ISL, Jamshedpur FC has assured fans that it will continue supporting Indian football through its youth and grassroots initiatives.
