24 Boxers Reach Quarter-Finals at Glasgow 2026
A total of 24 boxers have advanced to the quarter-finals, bringing them one step closer to winning at least a bronze medal at the upcoming Glasgow 2026 event.
One standout competitor is India’s Preeti, who recently clinched the title at the 2026 Asian Elite Championship. In the Women’s 54kg category, she faced Malawi’s Deborah Mtenje and secured a victory through a referee’s stoppage in the second round.
Next, Preeti will go head-to-head with Nicole Clyde from Northern Ireland. Although she is aware of the strength of the Irish boxers, Preeti is optimistic about her chances to reach the finals. “There are many good boxers in this competition, but I’m also good,” she stated confidently. She also expressed her pride in representing India at her first Commonwealth Games, promising to give her best performance.
In the morning session, more athletes demonstrated their skills as they made it to the final eight. England’s Lauren Mackie stood out as she was the only boxer to have fought twice in her category. She managed to defeat Australia’s Monique Suraci with a close 3-2 split-decision.
Mackie’s next challenge will be against Wales’ Helen Jones, who also won with a split decision over Nigeria’s Kadijat Ajishola.
In the Men’s 55kg category, Australia’s Jye Dixon put on an impressive show by overcoming Lesotho’s Mathealira Seholoholo. Earlier, Seholoholo had knocked out Northern Ireland’s Louis Rooney, but Dixon managed to control the match and secure a victory. Dixon said he was focused on staying calm and smart during the fight.
Dixon’s next opponent will be Md Rakib Hossain from Bangladesh, who won by unanimous decision against PNG’s Bid Michael Inoino. A gesture of respect was displayed as both boxers bowed to the corners of the venue together. If Hossain triumphs over Dixon, he would become the first Bangladeshi boxer to achieve a medal at the Commonwealth Games.
In a historic moment for Togo, Charif Yaya made his mark by being the first athlete from his country to compete at the Commonwealth Games, despite losing to Namibia’s Philip Pumulo Mutakela Haoseb.
The day also featured an exciting clash between Uganda’s Nuhu Batte and India’s Aditya Pratap Yadav in the Men’s 65kg bout. After trailing in the first round, Batte rallied back to secure a split-decision win.
As the competition continues, Monday, July 27, marks the second day of the Round of 16, leading into the quarter-finals set for July 28.
