Samsung Boosts Software Support for Galaxy Watch 9 and Ultra 2
Samsung has revealed exciting news for smartwatch fans by extending software support for its latest Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. Announced during the Unpacked event in London, these devices will receive five major operating system upgrades and five years of security patches.
This is a step up from previous models, which only got four OS updates while also having a five-year security update commitment. However, it remains unclear how this new policy affects older devices like the Galaxy Watch 8 and the original Galaxy Watch Ultra.
Both new watches will run on Wear OS 7 and feature Samsung’s One UI 9 Watch interface. They will also come packed with improved artificial intelligence and health monitoring features that cater to today’s users. This means that these models are expected to receive their last significant OS update by 2031.
The pre-order for the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 started on July 22, with the official launch set for August 7. The Galaxy Watch 9 will retail for €409 (about £352 or $379), while the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, which is available only in a 47mm version with LTE, is priced at €749 (approximately £642 or $699).
These new smartwatches aim to significantly enhance user experience with a focus on functionality and long-term usability, which is crucial for maintaining customer loyalty in the competitive market. Improvements in battery life and health features also address feedback from earlier models.
While this move shows Samsung’s dedication to improving its wearable technology, the company’s history of frequent software updates suggests that more changes could be coming. As discussions continue about upgrades for older models, users will be looking for further updates from Samsung.
