Major Advancement for Africa’s Cloud Services
In a noteworthy development, Cassava Technologies has made a significant leap in enhancing digital infrastructure and cloud services across Africa. Their subsidiaries, Africa Data Centres and Liquid C2, have achieved a landmark designation after Africa Data Centres was named a Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute Metro peering location in Johannesburg. This achievement underscores Cassava’s commitment to providing secure, resilient, and efficient digital services across the continent.
With its unique position as the only provider with connections in both key locations, Liquid C2 is set to launch Secure CloudConnect. This service combines robust private cloud connectivity with integrated cybersecurity solutions, creating a secure pathway for organizations to access Microsoft Azure.
Ziaad Suleman, Senior Vice President of Cassava Technologies for South Africa and Botswana, highlighted the importance of this milestone. He stated, “Being designated a Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute Metro peering location is a defining moment for Africa Data Centres. It shows that the continent is ready to support advanced cloud and AI services. Our combined strengths will provide a solid digital foundation for companies to innovate and grow.”
Johannesburg now stands out as the first ExpressRoute Metro location in Africa, joining a select group of global tech hubs. The JHB1 facility of Africa Data Centres will serve as a secondary peering site, offering local ExpressRoute Metro services. This configuration enhances redundancy for essential workloads by routing connections through two peering locations.
This progress comes at a time when regulators are increasingly focusing on operational resilience, risk management, and data protection. Liquid C2’s Secure CloudConnect aims to meet these demands by helping organizations minimize disruption, enhance their security defenses, and simplify complex cloud management—all while complying with regulatory standards.
Vukani Mngxati, CEO of Microsoft South Africa, expressed enthusiasm about the advancement. “South Africa is at the forefront of shaping the AI era, backed by trusted digital infrastructure. With Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute Metro now operational in Johannesburg, organizations gain a secure and resilient path to the cloud for critical tasks. When businesses operate on reliable foundations, they can accelerate their growth and make a significant economic impact.”
This achievement is a major step for digital transformation across African enterprises. By linking extensive infrastructure with managed cloud security, Cassava Technologies is helping businesses thrive and ensuring they can compete in the fast-paced global digital landscape.
