Paresh Rawal Reveals OMG 2 Stemmed from His Original Concept; Exits After Script Alterations: “No Need for a Divine Character”

Paresh Rawal Shares Insights on OMG 2’s Development

Paresh Rawal recently discussed his involvement in the film OMG 2, revealing that he was the one who originally pitched the idea. He expressed disappointment that the story evolved significantly after Akshay Kumar joined the project, and claimed he wasn’t properly credited for his contributions.

In a conversation with Vickey Lalwani, Rawal mentioned approaching director Amit Rai after watching Road to Sangam, sharing, “I told him I had an idea worth exploring. While I’m not a writer, I know a bit about screenplays and wanted to contribute.”

Rawal elaborated on the initial concept, which revolved around a boy whose private moment goes public, causing turmoil in his life. Initially, the boy’s father was meant to be a tour guide at the Khajuraho temple, later changed to a part-time priest. The team aimed to create a film that was both entertaining and educational, bringing in sexologist Dr. Prakash Kothari for deeper insight.

He noted that the film was not intended as a sequel to OMG. “Our focus was to have a biker guiding the father, not a divine figure. The storyline centered on a father’s quest for justice for his son. There was no need for a godly presence here,” Rawal emphasized.

Initially, Rawal considered actors Ajay Devgn and Salman Khan for the biker role, consciously avoiding Akshay Kumar to prevent confusion regarding the film’s identity.

As the project progressed, Rawal learned that Akshay was interested after the script reached him through producer Ashwin Varde. However, Rawal felt left out of the loop and later discovered that the script was labeled OMG 2, which he hadn’t intended.

Despite Akshay’s attempts to bring Rawal back on board, the actor refused, stating, “This wasn’t the film I had in mind anymore.” He expressed sadness over not being credited for his original idea, saying, “It’s disappointing that my name wasn’t included. Everyone knows I was involved in the early discussions.”

At this moment, neither Akshay Kumar nor the film’s director has publicly responded to Rawal’s statements.
