MOSCOW: A Ukrainian drone hit a tanker while it was entering the Azov-Black Sea Canal, according to Yury Slyusar, the governor of Russia’s Rostov region, on Sunday.

The fire caused by the drone strike has been extinguished, and officials confirmed there is no risk of an oil spill since the tanker was empty. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported.

Recently, the Ukrainian military has attacked over 40 Russian tankers in the Sea of Azov. Ukraine says this is part of a strategy to disrupt fuel supplies to Russian forces and to isolate Crimea, which is under Russian control.

In the past few weeks, Ukraine has stepped up its attacks on logistics and energy facilities in Crimea, leading to fuel shortages and prompting local authorities to declare a state of emergency on the peninsula.
