Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Makes History as Youngest Indian to Debut in T20I
In a stunning achievement, 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has made his international cricket debut for India. The young cricketer from Samastipur, Bihar, earned his debut cap during the second T20I match against England in Manchester on July 4. Celebrated for his incredible hitting skills in the Indian Premier League, Vaibhav’s rise to the national team has captured the attention of cricket fans across the country.
Despite some fans believing his debut came a bit late, as he sat out the first T20I against England and two matches against Ireland, the Indian team management, led by Gautam Gambhir, decided it was time to give the exciting opener his chance on the international stage.
Vaibhav’s journey to the senior team began after his impressive performance in the India A side during a recent tri-series in June. During the final match against Sri Lanka A, he created a buzz by scoring the fastest List A half-century, achieving it in just 11 balls. Although he fell short of a record century, out for 94 runs off just 29 balls, his talent was undeniable.
As a result, the selectors wasted no time in promoting him to the national team.

With his debut at just 15 years, 3 months, and 7 days, Vaibhav has now set a record as the youngest player to represent India in international cricket. He surpasses Shafali Verma, who made her debut in 2019 at 15 years and 239 days, and breaks the long-standing record of Sachin Tendulkar, who debuted for India at 16.
India has previously fast-tracked young players but rarely at such a young age or with the level of expectations surrounding Vaibhav. His debut places him ahead of notable young talents in Indian cricket history, like wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel and spinner Harbhajan Singh, who made their debuts at 17.
Recent players have typically made their debuts at older ages; for instance, Yuvraj Singh debuted at 18.
