U.S. Sends Rescue Teams to Venezuela After Devastating Earthquakes

U.S. search and rescue teams, backed by military resources, are heading to Venezuela following two powerful earthquakes that have caused extensive damage. The tremors have claimed at least 920 lives, with around 51,000 individuals reported missing and more than 3,300 injuries. To support the overwhelmed nation’s recovery efforts, the United Nations is also sending 1,000 emergency workers.

The U.S. military is actively assisting Venezuela in the aftermath of these tragic events. According to the U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), military units are arriving in Venezuela today to aid in the relief efforts requested by the Venezuelan government. SOUTHCOM emphasized that their operations are entirely self-sufficient, ensuring that local resources are not required as they engage in critical relief activities.

Venezuelan National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez updated the death toll on Sunday, stating it had reached 1,450.

Miraculous Rescues Amid the Ruins

In a remarkable development, American rescue teams successfully pulled an infant alive from the rubble days after the quakes struck.

SOUTHCOM shared on social media that U.S. Marines are on the ground, assisting both U.S. and international first responders in the hardest-hit areas.

The U.S. plans to bolster relief efforts further, with reporting indicating a commitment of $150 million in aid and deployment of Navy warships to support the operation.

In a heart-wrenching tragedy connected to the earthquakes, Argentine soccer player Lucas Trejo has lost his wife and two children due to a building collapse.

Efforts are ongoing as first responders work around the clock to locate survivors and deliver essential aid to those impacted by this disaster.
