SS Rajamouli Gears Up for ‘Varanasi’ Shoot in Hyderabad

Acclaimed filmmaker SS Rajamouli is set to restart filming for his much-anticipated movie Varanasi, featuring stars Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Sources indicate that the production will ramp up beginning July 7 in Hyderabad, where they plan to film one of the film’s most challenging and significant parts: a large-scale battle sequence.

Major Battle Scene Planned

According to reports, this particular scene is poised to be quite a spectacle, raising the bar even higher than Rajamouli’s previous works. The scene will showcase Mahesh Babu alongside an astonishing 3,500 junior artists. The team has been preparing for this complex shoot for several weeks to ensure everything goes as planned.

This update comes after Rajamouli created a buzz at La Cinémathèque Française in Paris, where he shared the first glimpse of Varanasi on June 27. The exclusive preview earned enthusiastic applause and heightened excitement among the audience, marking the film’s first presentation in Europe.

Expanding the Army Digitally

While the live shoot involves thousands of performers, it’s just the start. After filming, advanced visual effects will be used to expand the on-screen army. Reports suggest that the production aims to digitally multiply the number of performers to create a massive battle scene featuring around 50,000 vanars.

Varanasi is being described as a grand mythological action epic, focusing on the thrilling adventures of its main character as he journeys through various timelines. The film promises to be a visual treat, with viewers eagerly awaiting its release, which is currently scheduled for April 2027.
