Infant Rescued After Earthquake in Venezuela
American search-and-rescue teams successfully pulled a 9-month-old baby girl alive from rubble in Venezuela after a series of powerful earthquakes struck the country. The U.S. Department of State confirmed the rescue effort, which took place over 72 hours following the disaster.
The baby, along with her mother, was found with only minor injuries, highlighting the successful efforts of U.S. personnel on the ground. The rescue operation was led by the Fairfax County Urban Search and Rescue team, which had been deployed to Venezuela shortly before the rescue.
The State Department captured footage of the moment the baby was saved, sharing it on social media with messages of hope amidst devastation. They stated, “Every life saved is a victory,” reflecting the determination of the rescue teams as they work tirelessly to find others trapped in the debris.
As emergency teams continue their search, the situation remains dire; official reports indicate that the earthquakes have claimed at least 1,430 lives and left more than 68,000 people missing. Rescue operations have been ongoing around the clock since the strong tremors hit the northern coast of Venezuela.
Around 243 individuals have been rescued so far. Despite the challenging conditions, crews remain focused on locating potential survivors as the critical rescue window narrows.
Multiple U.S. rescue teams, comprising approximately 312 personnel and 18 canine units, are assisting local efforts in the hardest-hit areas. They brought more than 200,000 pounds of specialized equipment to facilitate their search for survivors.
The United States has pledged $150 million for emergency aid and support for humanitarian organizations responding to this crisis. Rescue efforts continue with urgent calls for help from the community as families grapple with the impact of this disaster.
