Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, put up a spirited performance but was ultimately defeated by top seed and world No. 5 Ratchanok Intanon from Indonesia in the quarterfinals of the USD 500,000 Arctic Open Super 500 tournament. The match took place on Friday and lasted just over an hour, with final scores of 21-11, 19-21, and 21-18 in favor of Intanon.
With this victory, Intanon now has the advantage in their head-to-head matchups, leading 10-4 against Sindhu. Earlier in the tournament, Sindhu, who is seeded sixth, advanced to the quarterfinals by overcoming Japan’s Riko Gunji. In that match, she secured a straight-set win with scores of 21-15, 21-15.
The 31-year-old badminton star from Hyderabad recently celebrated a title win at the Japan Open Super 750 tournament in July, showcasing her strong form.
