The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) is calling for action against filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali following the tragic death of a crew member on the set of Love & War. Suresh Gupta, the president of AICWA, has written to Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, urging the filing of a police complaint against Bhansali and seeking a compensation of ₹1 crore for the worker’s family along with a thorough investigation into the incident.
Reports indicate that 42-year-old carpenter Chandradhari Singh Yadav lost his life due to an electric shock while working during the early hours of June 17, 2026. He leaves behind a wife and two young daughters. Gupta emphasized that the unfortunate event highlights a lack of safety measures on film sets.
In his statements, Gupta expressed deep concern, saying, “On that night, a worker lost his life because the necessary safety protocols were not followed. If Sanjay Leela Bhansali had adhered to safety guidelines, this tragic incident could have been avoided.”
Gupta also mentioned that this is not an isolated incident. He referred to past tragedies on Bhansali’s film sets, including two fatalities during the filming of Devdas and another death during the production of Padmaavat.
He argued that it is crucial for the film industry to prioritize the safety of its workers. “Why is it always the workers who suffer? They are the ones who face the risks without sufficient safety measures in place. We are demanding that a murder case be filed because of the repeated negligence observed on set,” he said.
As of now, there has been no official comment from Sanjay Leela Bhansali or his team regarding these serious allegations. The situation continues to be monitored following this unfortunate incident on the set of Love & War.
