New Delhi Protests US Military Attack on Vessel Off Oman

New Delhi – On Wednesday, India reached out to the United States, expressing strong discontent regarding a military attack on a commercial ship off the coast of Oman. Jason Meeks, the US Chargé d’Affaires, was called in for talks as Ambassador Sergio Gor was away from Delhi.
While India has formally communicated its concerns, no official diplomatic note has been issued yet.
The situation arose after an attack on the vessel Settebello, which had 24 Indian crew members aboard. Authorities have confirmed that 21 crew members were rescued, but unfortunately, three are still missing, prompting ongoing search efforts.
Following the incident, the US government released footage showing the attack on the Settebello. In a statement, India’s Ministry of External Affairs condemned the action, highlighting the seriousness of attacks on commercial ships in the region.
“The assault on the Settebello is deeply troubling. The safety of sailors and commercial shipping must be prioritized,” the Ministry stated.
India has also called for the reduction of tensions in the area, emphasizing the need for safe navigation and protection for vessels operating in international waters.
“We urge for a swift resolution to ongoing conflicts and hope for a diplomatic solution that brings peace and stability back to the region,” the statement concluded.
