Significant Changes Ahead for Netflix’s ‘The Royals’ in Season 2
Netflix India’s romantic comedy series, The Royals, is gearing up for a fresh direction in its upcoming second season. Jasmeet K. Reen, known for her work on the successful film Darlings, is stepping in as the new director, according to reports.
Reen takes over the role from Nupur Asthana, who directed the first season. Asthana is believed to have left the project due to other commitments, particularly with another Netflix series produced by Ekta Kapoor’s banner. Despite this change, Priyanka Ghose is expected to remain involved with The Royals.
Pre-production for Season 2 is currently in motion, and filming is anticipated to start in July 2026.
In related news, Bhumi Pednekar, who played opposite Ishaan Khatter in the first season, reportedly will not be returning for the next chapter. Her departure seems to be part of broader creative changes in the series.
Reen made a name for herself with Darlings, featuring stars Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah, and Vijay Varma, which received positive reviews. She is also set to direct a period drama about the iconic actress Madhubala, with Sara Arjun taking on the lead role, supported by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
As reported, Reen plans to wrap up filming for The Royals Season 2 before diving into the Madhubala biopic later this year.
