Vashu Bhagnani has been in the spotlight recently after he took legal action against the creators of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. He claims they used songs from his film Biwi No. 1, specifically “Chunari Chunari” and “Ishq Sona Hai,” without permission, which he believes violates copyright laws.
Now, new reports suggest that Bhagnani may face another legal challenge, this time involving PVR Inox Ltd. A source revealed that there was a three-film deal between PVR Inox Pictures and Bhagnani’s production company, Puja Entertainment. As part of this agreement, PVR Inox paid about ₹100 crores as a refundable advance to produce and release the films Mission Raniganj, Ganapath, and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. The expectation was that Puja Entertainment would return any unpaid amounts if the films did not perform well at the box office.
Unfortunately, these films did not meet expectations, generating around ₹100 crores in total, which fell short of what was hoped for. Following this, PVR Inox Pictures has been trying to recover around ₹50 crores. Despite multiple attempts, there has been no success in retrieving this amount.
As a result, PVR Inox Pictures is considering legal action if the situation doesn’t improve soon. The source mentioned that while no legal steps have been taken yet, the lack of progress might push them to go to court.
Adding to the complexity, there was talk of settling the debt with property. The Bhagnani family reportedly suggested offering two to three flats in Mumbai as part of the settlement. However, this offer has not resolved the issue. Even if the properties are considered, their value may not be enough to cover the total debt, especially when interest is taken into account.
The dispute has raised concerns in the industry, particularly as Bhagnani is already engaged in a different legal battle over song rights. The upcoming weeks could be critical for him and his production company, as the situation continues to develop.
