Anthropic Raises $65 Billion to Expand AI Capabilities
On May 29, 2026, Anthropic announced a significant financial boost, securing $65 billion in funding, which brings its total valuation to an impressive $965 billion. This capital is aimed at increasing computing power to keep pace with the rising demand for its chatbot, Claude, and to enhance its product offerings.
With this latest funding round, Anthropic has outpaced OpenAI, whose valuation was reported at $852 billion back in March. This development heightens the competition between the two companies as they vie for leadership in the fast-changing artificial intelligence landscape.
Anthropic’s valuation has surged dramatically from $380 billion in February, demonstrating robust investor interest in innovative AI companies. In a blog post, the company revealed that its revenue run-rate has exceeded $47 billion, driven by growing adoption among global enterprise customers.
As Anthropic seeks to bolster its finances, there are indications that it is also preparing for a public offering. Both Anthropic and OpenAI are eyeing the stock market this year to secure the necessary resources for their operations and to develop new AI models.
Amid high demand in recent months, Anthropic has faced challenges in meeting user needs, leading to temporary usage restrictions during peak times and incentives for users to engage during off-peak hours.
The recent funding round was primarily led by notable investment firms such as Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, and Sequoia Capital, with contributions from Coatue and ICONIQ. Additionally, major tech partners including Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix participated, bringing a total of $15 billion from previously committed investments, which includes a substantial $5 billion from Amazon.
In April, Amazon announced plans to invest up to $25 billion in Anthropic, as the startup plans to allocate over $100 billion to Amazon’s cloud technologies over the next decade, on top of an earlier investment of $8 billion from the tech giant.
As Anthropic continues to grow, it remains focused on harnessing AI to meet the needs of businesses worldwide.
