Action Heats Up on Day 2 of the 2026 US Open
The second day of the 2026 US Open promises excitement as some of the tournament’s biggest stars take to the court. Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz and two-time titleholder Aryna Sabalenka will kick off their singles matches today. Fans can also look forward to seeing Iga Swiatek, Naomi Osaka, Ben Shelton, and Frances Tiafoe play as the first round continues in New York.
Day 1 surprised everyone when Mariano Navone knocked out four-time champion Novak Djokovic in a gripping five-set match. Djokovic faced significant challenges, including vomiting and extreme discomfort, causing his streak of 78 consecutive Grand Slam first-round wins to come to an end.
Now, Alcaraz is set to defend his title against Roman Safiullin. This marks his return to competitive play after missing both the French Open and Wimbledon due to a wrist injury. He has already started his time in Flushing Meadows by participating in mixed doubles alongside Serena Williams.
Sabalenka, the world No. 1, will start her quest for a third straight US Open title against Camila Osorio. Both her match and Alcaraz’s will be played at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Meanwhile, Swiatek is set to face Wang Xiyu, and Osaka will go up against Anastasia Zakharova later in the evening.
Star Power on Display
Alcaraz’s match against Safiullin is set for 10:30 PM IST, while Sabalenka’s clash will start at 9 PM IST. Swiatek’s opener is scheduled for 4:30 AM IST, followed by Osaka at 6:30 AM.
Amanda Anisimova, who was the runner-up last year, will begin against Ashlyn Krueger. Seventh-seed Karolina Muchova will play against Sinja Kraus, and the 15th seed Diana Shnaider is set to face Daria Snigur.
In the men’s draw, fans can look forward to exciting matches, including Stefanos Tsitsipas meeting 10th seed Arthur Fils, Andrey Rublev facing Marin Cilic, and Grigor Dimitrov going up against Alexei Popyrin. Moreover, Stan Wawrinka is set to compete against Matteo Berrettini, marking what is anticipated to be his final appearance at the US Open before retirement at the end of the season.
