Punjab Kings Clarifies Arshdeep Singh’s Fitness Amid Growing Concerns

Punjab Kings is facing criticism over its communication regarding the fitness of Arshdeep Singh, especially as the IPL season enters a crucial stage. The latest issue arose after the team denied reports suggesting that Arshdeep was not at full fitness before their match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on May 17.

Concerns about the left-arm fast bowler were raised after team physio Andrew Leipus mentioned that Arshdeep has been dealing with some physical issues. “We’ve been monitoring his body to identify any restrictions that may be affecting his performance. He has been feeling much better recently,” Leipus stated prior to the game.

After these remarks, some reports indicated that Arshdeep was not performing at his best during a practice session. Bowling coach James Hopes was asked about this but opted not to comment further. “I can’t say much. Arshdeep has been training hard, just like he always does. If not for some dropped catches off his bowling, he’d have even more wickets this season,” Hopes said.

In the match, Arshdeep took one wicket for 43 runs, but doubts about his fitness lingered in discussions post-game.

Response from Punjab Kings

In response to growing speculation, Punjab Kings issued a statement on Monday, clarifying, “Contrary to reports, we confirm that Arshdeep Singh is fully fit and has been actively training with the team. The management is pleased with his progress, and he is eager to contribute as we approach a pivotal part of the tournament.”

The team added, “His performance in practice has been impressive, and we believe he will continue to be a vital player for us.”

Despite starting the season strong, Punjab Kings has recently hit a rough patch, facing six straight losses, which has severely impacted their chances for the playoffs. With just one game left, the team is relying on its experienced players, particularly Arshdeep, to step up and help secure a spot in the next round.

Although struggling to match his previous seasons’ performances, Arshdeep still holds the title of Punjab Kings’ highest wicket-taker this season with 14 wickets from 13 matches, a decline from last year’s 21 wickets.

Arshdeep has also faced scrutiny off the field due to accusations of making racial comments directed at fellow player Tilak Varma, which sparked backlash on social media.

As the IPL season progresses, all eyes will be on Punjab Kings and Arshdeep Singh as they strive to turn their fortunes around.
