On the first day of the second and final Test against Pakistan, Bangladesh’s wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das played a stunning innings, rescuing his team from an early collapse. He scored 126 runs off 159 balls, hitting 16 fours and 2 sixes, which helped Bangladesh reach a total of 278 runs before being all out.
Despite Litton’s impressive performance, the rest of the Bangladeshi batters struggled, with no one else managing to score over 30 runs, highlighting the effectiveness of Pakistan’s disciplined bowling attack.
Pakistan made a solid start after winning the toss and choosing to bowl first. Khurram Shahzad, who replaced Shaheen Shah Afridi in the squad, was the standout bowler for Pakistan, claiming 4 wickets for 81 runs. Veteran pacer Mohammad Abbas supported well with 3 wickets for 45 runs, while Hasan Ali, despite injuring himself in his first over, took 2 wickets for 49 runs, including the crucial wicket of Litton Das.
Bangladesh’s innings began tumultuously, with Abbas taking the first wicket just two balls in, dismissing Mahmudul Hasan for a duck. Debutant Tanzid Hasan briefly countered the pressure with a brisk 26, but he too fell, offering a catch to Hasan Ali, who had an injury scare but managed to return to the field.
With Bangladesh struggling at 63 for 3, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and veteran Mushfiqur Rahim attempted to stabilize the innings. However, Abbas struck again, getting rid of Shanto for 29. Khurram Shahzad then added to Bangladesh’s woes by taking out Mushfiqur and Mehidy Hasan, leaving the team in a precarious position at 116 for 6.
At this point, Litton Das stepped up, forming a vital 60-run partnership with Taijul Islam for the seventh wicket. He reached his half-century in 93 balls and accelerated, bringing up his sixth Test century with a delightful shot through the covers, receiving applause from the crowd.
As the day concluded, Pakistan’s openers Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal calmly faced the last overs, ending the day at 21 runs without losing a wicket, trailing Bangladesh by 257 runs. Additionally, Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam returned to the squad after missing the first Test due to an injury.
