Lucknow: A Growing Hub for AI Innovation in India

On Friday, Lucknow hosted the AI Transformation Conclave 2026, bringing together over 50 IAS officers and senior administrators from all over the country. The event featured a key workshop titled “The AI-Powered Public Administrator: Competencies for a New Era of Governance.”

Subi Chaturvedi, the founder of NIHIT and a key figure in the India-US CEO Forum, chaired the sessions. She highlighted that Uttar Pradesh, particularly Lucknow, is becoming a significant center for AI innovation in India. Chaturvedi noted the contributions of companies like InMobi, which are helping to foster a strong environment for governance, research, talent development, and entrepreneurship in the state.

Chaturvedi emphasized the need for AI to be ethical, accountable, and user-friendly. She stressed that a trustworthy technological future is achievable only through AI systems designed with people in mind, ensuring inclusive growth.

The conclave primarily focused on the state’s ambitious AI policy and technology vision. Recently, Uttar Pradesh approved its first AI City project in Lucknow’s Vrindavan Yojana, with an estimated budget of Rs 368 crore. Additionally, Rs 225 crore has been set aside for the UP AI Mission.

Manoj Kumar Singh, the CEO of the State Transformation Commission, mentioned that Uttar Pradesh is on track to become a national model for AI-driven governance. He believes that AI-led reforms will play a crucial role in achieving the state’s aim of becoming a trillion-dollar economy.

Alok Kumar, Principal Secretary of the IT and Electronics Department, assured that the government is dedicated to building solid infrastructure for advancing technologies like AI, quantum computing, and deep-tech innovations. He pointed out that the latest state budget includes special provisions for the UP AI Mission and AI City project, along with other emerging technology initiatives.

During the conclave, participants discussed various topics, including AI ecosystems, cybersecurity, digital governance, and the role of AI in enhancing citizen services, showcasing the broad impact AI can have on governance and society.
