Kohli Shines with Century, Reflects on His Love for Cricket
In an impressive performance against the Kolkata Knight Riders, Virat Kohli made headlines not just with his runs, but also with his heartfelt words after the match. Playing in Raipur, he celebrated a match-winning century, scoring an unbeaten 105 runs off 60 balls, leading the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to a six-wicket victory. Kohli shared that he is no longer focused on breaking records; instead, he wants to cherish every moment he has left on the field.
His outstanding performance helped RCB climb to the top of the IPL 2026 points table, and along the way, he became the fastest player to achieve 14,000 T20 runs, overtaking Chris Gayle. Moreover, this match marked Kohli’s 279th appearance in the IPL, making him the player with the most matches in the tournament’s history.
Reflecting on his journey, Kohli expressed, “I just love batting, even after all this. What an honour it is to play at this level and compete with the best in the world. Cricket is a true passion for me.” At 37 years old, Kohli, who has already stepped back from T20I and Test cricket, acknowledged that the end of his playing days is in sight. While some speculate about him leading India in the 2027 ODI World Cup, Kohli emphasized that he now plays with more gratitude rather than feeling any pressure to achieve numbers or milestones.
He shared, “I pour my heart and soul into every game, whether I’m batting or fielding, because this journey will end someday. I want to enjoy every moment on the field and embrace pressure situations.”
Kohli’s century came at a crucial time, especially after he faced setbacks with two consecutive scores of zero against the Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians, totaling just three deliveries in those innings. With all eyes on him, he responded strongly against KKR. Despite an early drop by Rovman Powell when he was on 21, Kohli quickly found his rhythm. He reached his fifty in just 32 balls, fueling the team’s momentum along with Devdutt Padikkal.
Kohli’s century was sealed with a single in the second last over, just before Jitesh Sharma finished off the chase. Speaking on how the recent challenges sharpened his focus, he remarked, “Those failures remind you of what gets you your best performances. Pressure is indeed a privilege.”
His joyous reaction after scoring his first run also became a memorable highlight of the night. He celebrated with enthusiasm, soaking in the cheers from the Raipur crowd, grateful to avoid a third consecutive duck.
RCB’s solid performance now places them at the top of the IPL 2026 points table with 16 points, as they strive for a top-two finish in the final stages of the season. However, their qualification is not yet certain. On the other hand, KKR’s recent loss puts a damper on their playoff hopes, as they now sit in a tough spot despite having a strong score of 192 for four. Their dreams of qualification are hanging by a thread, with a challenging path ahead.
In a thrilling IPL season, Kohli’s century is a powerful reminder of his enduring brilliance on the cricket field.
