IPL 2026: Karnataka’s Macneil Noronha Joins CSK as Injury Stand-in for Ramakrishna Ghosh

Chennai Super Kings Sign Macneil Noronha as Replacement for Injured Ghosh

Chennai Super Kings have announced the signing of Macneil Noronha, a talented all-rounder from Karnataka, as a replacement for the injured Ramakrishna Ghosh for the remainder of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

Noronha will join the team for ₹30 lakh after making a name for himself in domestic cricket with impressive performances. At just 24 years old, he recently received the prestigious MA Chidambaram Trophy at the NAMAN Awards for being the top run-scorer in the 2024-25 Colonel CK Nayudu Trophy.

His strong performances also secured him a spot in Karnataka’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy squad, where he played in three matches. In his latest game in December 2025 against Tripura, he stood out by scoring a quick 34 runs off 21 balls and took a valuable wicket.

Ramakrishna Ghosh’s Injury Update

The decision to bring in Noronha follows the unfortunate news of Ghosh’s injury. He suffered a right foot injury during a match against the Mumbai Indians on May 3, which has sidelined him for the rest of the season.

Ghosh had just made his IPL debut in this match, contributing to Chennai’s significant eight-wicket victory. In a crucial role, he bowled three overs, taking one wicket and conceding 24 runs—most notably dismissing the dangerous Suryakumar Yadav.

Despite this setback, the Super Kings hope that Noronha can enhance their squad as they aim for a place in the playoffs.

Play-off Aspirations for CSK

Chennai’s journey this season has been a rollercoaster. After starting with three losses, they bounced back with six wins out of their last eight matches, putting them in a strong position for qualification.

Their upcoming match against the Lucknow Super Giants on May 15 is critical for their playoff hopes. Following this, they will face SunRisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans in their last league matches.

With tight competition for playoff spots, experts suggest that 18 points will be essential for qualifying. Therefore, Chennai needs to win all three remaining games to secure a top-four finish.

The five-time champions seem to be gaining momentum, rediscovering their form at just the right time this season.

As Noronha steps into this competitive environment, fans are eager to see how he contributes to the team’s efforts during this crucial phase of the tournament.
