Latta, SC – A Historic Step for Healthcare Expansion

Latta’s town officials are excited to announce the transfer of a historic building to CareSouth Carolina, a nonprofit organization focused on improving healthcare access in the community.

Since 2015, CareSouth Carolina has been operating from the Latimer School Building on Latimer Street. Now, with the town officially handing over ownership, the nonprofit can utilize the entire space instead of just part of it.

This change is expected to bring significant enhancements to healthcare services, allowing CareSouth Carolina to nearly double its patient capacity in Latta.

Ann Lewis, CEO of CareSouth Carolina, expressed her enthusiasm about the donation, stating, “This is a major milestone for us. It enables us to invest in important repairs and improvements, preserving the building’s legacy while making it more functional. We’re excited about the growth opportunities this will provide.”

The Latimer School Building holds a special place in the heart of the Latta community, and this transfer ensures its continued relevance in local history.

Latta’s Mayor Marcus McGirt shared his excitement about the partnership, emphasizing the benefits of bringing more services to local residents. “We are grateful to pass on this piece of history to CareSouth Carolina, allowing them to transform it into something modern that serves everyone in our community,” he said.

CareSouth Carolina is committed to honoring the historical significance of the building while making necessary renovations to improve its use for healthcare services.
