Vietnam Becomes 18th Largest Exporter in the World
As of 2025, Vietnam has reached an impressive milestone, becoming the world’s 18th largest exporting economy, with export revenues nearing $473 billion. This information comes from Statista, which analyzed data provided by the World Trade Organization.
Among the top 30 exporting nations, Vietnam stands out as one of 11 Asian countries, alongside others like Singapore, which ranks 14th, and Thailand in 25th place.
China continues to hold the top spot as the largest exporter globally, with exports totaling around $3.8 trillion last year. This is largely thanks to a vast array of free trade agreements that support its trade network. The United States follows in second place, boasting exports exceeding $2.2 trillion, fueled by significant sales in vehicles, oil, soybeans, and medical products. Germany comes in third, with exports valued at about $1.8 trillion.
In the rankings, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, Japan, Italy, and South Korea follow Germany, with export values ranging from around $709 billion to nearly $1 trillion.
Vietnam’s performance in international trade has been commendable, with exports surpassing $470 billion for the first time, reflecting a growth of over 16% compared to the previous year. The nation also enjoyed a trade surplus exceeding $20 billion in 2025, contributing to its economic stability.
Key exports driving this growth include electronics, computers, mobile phones and their components, machinery, and agricultural products. Over the past decade, Vietnam’s trade has skyrocketed from $100 billion in 2009 to a remarkable $930 billion last year. Currently, as of mid-April this year, total trade has already approached $300 billion. Vietnam is on track to reach the $1 trillion mark soon, showcasing its rapidly expanding economy.
