TEHRAN: Iran’s top national security committee announced on Saturday that the country is currently examining “new proposals” from the United States, though it emphasized that it would not make any compromises during the negotiations.
In a statement released by state media, the Supreme National Security Council explained that recently, new proposals were introduced by the Americans with the help of the Pakistani army chief, who is acting as a mediator in the discussions. Iran is in the process of reviewing these proposals but has not yet provided a response.
The council stated that Iran’s negotiating team will not yield even an inch, insisting that they will vigorously protect the interests of the Iranian people.
Pakistan has taken on the role of mediator in these talks, having hosted initial discussions last week, which concluded without an agreement.
Just hours after the information about the proposals was made public, Iran declared that it was reinstating its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz in response to ongoing US restrictions on its ports. This prompted a warning from US President Donald Trump, who cautioned Iran against attempting to “blackmail” the United States.
The Supreme National Security Council reiterated Iran’s commitment to maintaining oversight over traffic in the Strait of Hormuz until the conflict is completely resolved. They stated that the US blockade would prevent even a limited reopening of the strait. Any future reopening would require Iran to issue transit permits to ships and collect fees for security, safety, and environmental services.
