In February 2026, there were reports that the title of the film Lahore 1947 might be changed. New information suggests that it could be renamed Batwara 1947.
An article from Mid-Day on April 17 indicated that the production team is leaning towards this new title. A source mentioned, “The makers prefer the title Batwara 1947. Most likely, this will be the final title as long as everyone involved agrees. We should have more clarity in a few weeks.”
Initially, the film was named Lahore 1947 because it is based on the well-known play Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya, set during the period of Independence in the city of Lahore. However, the creators believe a different title might better fit the film’s story.
The movie is set to hit theaters on August 13, right in time for the Independence Day celebrations.
Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya, written by Syed Asghar Wajahat in 1980, tells the story of a Muslim family that moves from Lucknow to Lahore during the Partition. They are given a house that was vacated by a Hindu family, and the elderly Hindu woman in the story forms a unique bond with the Muslim newcomers.
The film Lahore 1947, now possibly titled Batwara 1947, has generated excitement, especially since it reunites actor Sunny Deol with director Rajkumar Santoshi, while Aamir Khan also plays a supporting role. The cast includes Preity Zinta, Ali Fazal, and Shabana Azmi. Given the impressive lineup and Sunny Deol’s recent success with Border 2, the film is expected to perform well at the box office.
