Madras High Court Dismisses Tamannaah Bhatia’s Case Against Power Soaps Limited

The Madras High Court has dismissed an appeal from actor Tamannaah Bhatia, who was seeking ₹1 crore in damages from Power Soaps Limited. She alleged that the company used her images without permission after their commercial agreement had expired.

A bench of Justices P Velmurugan and K Govindarajan Thilakavadi upheld a previous ruling, stating that Bhatia did not provide sufficient evidence to prove that her photographs were used beyond the set agreement period.

The case originated from a deal made in 2008, which allowed Power Soaps to use her images for one year to promote their soap products, ending in October 2009. Bhatia claimed that the company continued to use her images in 2010 and 2011, affecting her opportunities with other brands.

In her court appeal, she sought compensation and a permanent injunction to stop the company from further use of her images. However, the single judge had previously rejected her claims, noting that the evidence she presented, including product wrappers and online listings, was unreliable.

The Division Bench agreed with the earlier findings, stating that Bhatia’s claims lacked credible evidence and maintained the dismissal of her appeal.
