Kohli Shines Amid Challenges in IPL 2026

As the IPL 2026 season kicks off, all eyes are on Virat Kohli and how he approaches the tournament. After his last T20 match in the IPL 2025 final, Kohli stepped back from Test cricket. This season, he is showcasing a style that fits the fast-paced nature of modern T20.

RCB Triumph Over LSG

In his first three matches, Kohli maintained an impressive strike rate of over 150. He notably soared above 180 against SRH and hit a strike rate of 200 against RR. Although he faced a challenge against MI, where he couldn’t keep up with Phil Salt’s speed, he bounced back in a strong performance against LSG.

On a tricky wicket, different from the usual Chinnaswamy pitch, Kohli set the tone for RCB by attacking the bowlers early on. Even though he was out for 49, his contributions were vital in RCB’s five-wicket win.

After the match, Kohli highlighted the importance of adapting to different game situations. He acknowledged that not every game will see huge scores, saying, “It depends on the conditions. Not every match is going to be 230-240. The second half of the games will get tighter. When the pressure kicks in, you need to play smart cricket. The teams that adapt will do well.”

Kohli expressed that he is working hard to adjust to the evolving nature of T20 cricket. “I think I’ve done okay so far. In the last two games, I haven’t played my best, but I’m continuously trying to improve,” he noted.

Injury Update

Kohli played as an impact substitute for RCB after dealing with an ankle issue during the MI match. He admitted that he still isn’t at full fitness and has been under the weather for several days.

Reflecting on his performance, he shared his disappointment in not being able to finish the game. “I felt much better than the last match. I’m still not 100%. I’ve been sore and unwell for a few days. I was pleased with my intensity but wish I could have carried on,” he said.

RCB’s next challenge is against DC at home on April 18.
