Riyan Parag Reflects on Tactical Decision in Rajasthan Royals’ Loss
Riyan Parag, the captain of Rajasthan Royals, shared insights about his decision-making during the recent match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, which ended in a loss for his team. His choice not to involve star bowler Ravindra Jadeja became a significant point of discussion after the match, as the Royals allowed SRH to score a hefty 216 runs.
Parag explained that the decision was made quickly, emphasizing the match situation and the stellar performance of Ishan Kishan, who was batting confidently. “It was just a split-second call. Ishan was going strong, and I didn’t want to take any risks,” he said, suggesting he opted for other bowlers instead.
Looking back, the absence of spin bowling seemed to benefit SRH, allowing them to post a formidable total. Kishan’s impressive score of 91 played a key role, helping his team recover after losing early wickets.
Parag also mentioned that the pitch influenced his decisions. The surface had initially supported pace bowling, but as the game progressed, it became challenging to make effective bowling changes.
Although Jadeja didn’t bowl, he made a valuable contribution with the bat, scoring 45 runs and partnering with Donovan Ferreira to stabilize the innings after a shaky start for Rajasthan.
However, conceding 217 runs proved too much for the Royals, who found themselves in trouble early, collapsing to 9 for 5 within the first three overs. Despite some recovery efforts from the middle order, the early devastation proved too great to overcome.
Parag acknowledged that while some decisions could have been approached differently, the loss was largely due to execution rather than a single choice. He praised the young bowlers from SRH for their confident performance under pressure and recognized their contribution to setting the tone for the match.
Looking ahead, Parag stressed the importance of regrouping quickly, viewing this setback as a minor hurdle in what has been an otherwise strong season for the Royals.
