U.S. Begins Naval Blockade on Iran Amid Diplomatic Tensions
The United States has started a naval blockade aimed at Iranian maritime activities, escalating tensions in the Gulf region. This decision came shortly after high-level talks between U.S. and Iranian officials in Pakistan ended without an agreement.
President Trump announced the blockade, emphasizing that it aims to limit Iran’s business operations. He claimed that Iran’s military capabilities have been severely weakened, mentioning that their naval and air forces have been diminished.
Lieutenant General (retired) Mohammed Saeed, former chief of the Pakistani Army, noted in an interview that the recent talks were closer to success than one might think, highlighting the friendly and accommodating nature of the discussions. Saeed expressed hope that diplomatic efforts could resume, suggesting that both sides were only “inches away” from a deal.
Vance Leads Delegation Back to Washington
Vice President JD Vance, who headed the U.S. delegation, insisted that Iran must commit to a zero enrichment policy for uranium and must eliminate its stockpile of highly enriched uranium. He stated, “We need a clear promise that they will not pursue a nuclear weapon.”
Iranian officials rejected the U.S. demands, insisting that any agreement should include the release of frozen assets amounting to billions of dollars. With the blockade now in place, Saeed suggested it might serve more as leverage for negotiations rather than as a final military strategy.
Global Concerns Escalate
The moving blockade has raised concerns across the globe, particularly among nations reliant on Gulf energy supplies like Pakistan. Saeed remarked that the situation could have serious economic repercussions worldwide.

Munir, who has extensive experience in intelligence and military roles, has previously interacted with Iranian officials, which may help Pakistan act as a credible intermediary during this tense period. Saeed emphasized that this background gives Pakistan a unique edge in fostering communication between the two countries.
While concerns have been raised about Pakistan’s neutrality due to its stance on Israel, Saeed clarified that Pakistan’s mediation efforts focus solely on the U.S. and Iran, with no involvement from Israel in the current talks.
