NRIs Gather in Kerala to Support Election Campaign

In a spirited gathering, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) from all around the world came together at Mahadevan Vazhasseril’s residence in Kayamkulam for a lively Kudumba Sangamam. This event highlighted their increasing involvement in Kerala as they rallied behind the United Democratic Front (UDF) during the election campaign.

The atmosphere buzzed with hope and determination as many attendees, having returned from abroad, voiced their commitment to drive political change in the state. Several speakers criticized the current leadership of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, citing concerns about governance perceived as authoritarian and corrupt.

Participants demonstrated confidence that their growing engagement, alongside grassroots efforts, could significantly influence election results. Dr. Arathi Krishna, AICC Secretary overseeing the Indian Overseas Congress (IOC), has set up an “NRI Connect” initiative at the KPCC headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram. This aims to coordinate the activities of returning NRIs in key voting areas.

Dr. Krishna noted the strong enthusiasm among returning NRIs, despite challenges from global conflicts and travel issues. She acknowledged their passion for contributing to the party’s cause, emphasizing their vital role in various sectors in Kerala.

Mr. Vazhasseril welcomed the NRIs and encouraged them to actively participate in the campaign. The event, led by Mr. Sunil Aziz, President of INCAS, featured an opening address by Mr. Y.A. Rahim from Sharjah.

Deepa Das Munshi, AICC General Secretary for Kerala and Lakshadweep, formally opened the event. She stressed the crucial role of NRIs in Kerala’s economic and social landscape and expressed support for those facing uncertainties abroad. She praised the attendees for their dedication, even in challenging times.

Keynote remarks by KPCC spokesperson Anil Bose highlighted the perceived failures of the current government, suggesting that public frustration was growing and a political shift was on the horizon. AICC observers Anees Ahmed and Danish Abrar were also present, offering support at the gathering.

The meeting saw participation from numerous representatives, including IOC, OICC, and INCAS, along with various leaders from the diaspora. Noteworthy attendees included leaders from different countries, showcasing the diverse support network of the global Malayali community.

UDF candidate Advocate M. Liju also attended, expressing gratitude for the support of the NRIs and recognizing their crucial impact on energizing the campaign.

Ultimately, the Kudumba Sangamam proved to be not just a reunion of the global Malayali community, but also a strategic effort to bolster NRI involvement in shaping Kerala’s political landscape.
