Nita Ambani, the owner of the Mumbai Indians, shared a touching moment with star player Rohit Sharma before their IPL season opener, praising his incredible fitness journey.
In a video released by the team ahead of their match against the Kolkata Knight Riders, Nita expressed her surprise at Rohit’s leaner appearance, saying, “My God, Rohit, I didn’t recognize you! You look like a young boy!” Rohit responded with a shy smile, showcasing the close bond between them.
Nita’s visit to the Mumbai Indians camp also included time spent with other players and staff. One of the fun moments was when she fondly called Kieron Pollard “Polly Kaka,” a gesture that delighted fans online.
Rohit’s impressive transformation is not by chance. After stepping away from Test cricket in 2025, the 38-year-old cricketer has been dedicated to his fitness, aiming for success in the 2027 ODI World Cup. After India’s loss in the 2023 final, he seems more determined than ever to make his comeback.
His recent ODI stats highlight this commitment. Rohit scored 650 runs in 14 matches last year, averaging 50, and he made a strong contribution in the Champions Trophy final. Upon returning against Australia, he showcased his skills brilliantly, scoring 202 runs in three matches, including an unbeaten 121 in Sydney, which earned him the Player of the Series title.
Despite consistently strong performances at the international level, Rohit’s IPL stats have seen a decline in recent years. He aims to change that narrative this season. With 7,046 runs in 272 IPL matches, he is celebrated as one of the league’s greats. However, his last standout season was in 2016, and he has only crossed 400 runs three times in the last nine seasons. In the previous season, he managed 418 runs at a strike rate close to 150, showing glimpses of his talent but not delivering consistent results.
With his renewed focus on fitness and a clear target in sight, the Mumbai Indians are hopeful that a fitter and sharper Rohit Sharma can reclaim his best form, potentially writing one last great chapter both in the IPL and leading up to the 2027 World Cup.
