Smartphone Prices Rise in India Amid Global Supply Issues

In India, smartphone prices are on the rise as popular brands like OnePlus and Nothing have increased their prices on several models. This situation stems from a global shortage of RAM, which experts warned might lead to higher costs for consumers.

Both the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus 15R have seen price increases across all versions, marking a significant change in the pricing of flagship smartphones. The new prices range from an increase of about ₹2,500 to ₹6,000, depending on the model.

For instance, the OnePlus 15, which comes with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, now retails at ₹77,999, up from ₹72,999. Similarly, the 16GB/512GB variant has jumped to ₹85,999. The OnePlus 15R has also seen a price hike, starting at ₹52,999, compared to the previous price of ₹50,499.

Price Increases for Nothing Models

The price hikes are not exclusive to OnePlus. The Nothing Phone (4a) Pro and the Nothing Phone (4a) have also become more expensive just a few months after their launch. These models have seen price increases of around ₹3,000 to ₹5,000.

The starting price for the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro is now ₹44,999, while the standard Nothing Phone (4a) now begins at ₹34,999. Even older models like the Nothing Phone (3a) Lite have been affected by similar price changes.

A Broader Trend

Other smartphone brands are following suit. Samsung and Motorola have also raised prices for select models. Additionally, Xiaomi and Realme have adjusted their prices in response to rising supply costs. Most of these changes appear to have taken effect at the start of the month, indicating a coordinated response to growing supply issues.

Impact of Global Memory Shortage

The main driver behind these price increases is the global memory shortage. With higher demand for devices powered by artificial intelligence and decreased availability of memory components, production costs are rising.

Interestingly, these price increases are primarily impacting markets like India, while prices in the United States have remained stable for now.

What’s Next for Consumers?

Industry experts predict that more price hikes could be on the horizon. With ongoing supply constraints and increased demand for advanced technology, more brands may adjust their pricing in both high-end and mid-range segments. This trend suggests that what were once affordable smartphones may gradually become pricier in the coming months.
