Bangladesh and Pakistan Set for Exciting ODI Series
Bangladesh will host Pakistan for a three-match ODI series starting on March 11 at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. The matches are scheduled for March 11, 13, and 15. This will mark Pakistan’s first full 50-over tour of Bangladesh in over a decade.
Both teams are looking to fine-tune their skills for important upcoming events, including the 2027 ODI World Cup. Pakistan features a blend of seasoned players and fresh talent, while Bangladesh aims to bounce back after missing out on the recent T20 World Cup, seeking to regain their footing in international cricket.
New Faces for Pakistan
Pakistan’s selectors have made some bold choices for this tour, naming a 15-player squad led by captain Shaheen Shah Afridi. Notably, six uncapped players will be given the chance to shine on the international stage, as established stars Babar Azam, Naseem Shah, and Saim Ayub have been left out.
The new players, including Abdul Samad, Maaz Sadaqat, Muhammad Ghazi Ghori, Saad Masood, Sahibzada Farhan, and Shamyl Hussain, have impressed in domestic leagues and with the Pakistan Shaheens. Afridi has confirmed that three of these newcomers will make their ODI debuts, with Farhan and Sadaqat opening the batting and Hussain stepping in at No. 3.
Head coach Mike Hesson emphasized that this series is a great opportunity for young talents to demonstrate their skills and is not a reflection on the performances of senior players.
Bangladesh Welcomes Key Returning Players
Bangladesh has announced a strong squad as they return to international play after missing the T20 World Cup. Key players like fast bowlers Nahid Rana and Shoriful Islam, along with allrounder Afif Hossain, are back, enhancing the team’s batting and bowling capabilities.
However, some experienced players like Nurul Hasan, Jaker Ali, and Shamim Hossain have been left out, indicating changes in the lineup. Bangladesh’s head coach, Phil Simmons, confirmed that veteran batsman Litton Das will bat at No. 5, adding experience to the middle order.
Currently ranked 10th in the world, Bangladesh aims to secure direct qualification for the Upcoming ODI World Cup next year. They’re looking to replicate their past successes against Pakistan, recalling a 3-0 series win at home in April 2015.
