Rakul Preet Singh on Staying Strong Through Challenges: “I’m in This for the Long Haul”

In a heartfelt interview with Elle India, actress Rakul Preet Singh shared insights about the discipline that has been key to her success, along with the challenges she’s faced due to injuries. Entering the film industry at just 18, without any prior experience in the field, Rakul had a clear philosophy: “There may be people who look better or are more talented, but no one will outwork me. My work is my devotion.”

Rakul emphasized her commitment to professionalism. “When I say 4 p.m., I mean 4 p.m. If my hair and makeup take 1.5 hours, that’s exactly what I’ll take. There’s no other way for me,” she explained.

However, her dedication was put to the test after she endured a serious back injury that left her struggling to move. For nearly a year, Rakul had to coordinate her shoots and travel while also attending physical therapy sessions. “Even in Melbourne, after a long day of shooting, I’d make time for my rehab. I’d tell my team, ‘Give me an hour in the evening for my exercises.’ This is not just a short-term journey; it’s about a lasting career,” she stated.

Rakul now prioritizes long-term health over temporary fame in every aspect of her life, even in small decisions. She mentioned that she has stopped wearing heels after learning how they can negatively impact posture and spinal health. “In the last year, I’ve realized how wearing heels constantly hunches women forward. It’s harmful, yet we treat it as a style rule. Who decided that looking good must be painful?” she asked. Rakul has embraced flat shoes on red carpets, feeling empowered rather than diminished. “I’ve worn flats and never felt less glamorous. We should make that normal,” she concluded.
