Mourinho Warns Real Madrid Will Be a Dangerous Opponent

Jose Mourinho believes that Real Madrid will come back strong after their surprising defeat to Benfica, stating that a “wounded king” can be very dangerous. Benfica managed to defeat the European champions 4-2 in their last league match, a shock result that means Madrid now has to fight for a spot in the round of 16.

The two teams will face off again in Lisbon on Tuesday for the first leg of their knockout tie.

A Wounded King is Dangerous

Ahead of the match, Mourinho noted that the loss has only made Madrid more determined.

“They’re wounded,” he remarked. “And a wounded king is always dangerous. We will approach the first leg with ambition and confidence. We know what we can do against top teams like Real Madrid.”

Despite Benfica’s recent victory over them, Mourinho acknowledged the challenge ahead.

“I don’t think it requires a miracle for Benfica to beat Real Madrid,” he explained. “But we must be at our very best, nearly perfect, which is hard to achieve. It’s not about needing a miracle.”

He also showed respect for Madrid’s rich history and talent.

“Real Madrid has a great legacy and ambition. We are both giants in football. Beyond that, anything can happen in the game, and we believe we can win.”

No Clear Outcome in the First Leg

Benfica’s previous victory was dramatic, featuring an incredible moment when goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin scored a last-minute header that secured their progress.

“Trubin won’t be scoring goals this time,” Mourinho joked.

A seasoned coach in European knockout rounds, Mourinho dismissed the notion that the first leg will determine the outcome of the tie.

“I’ve been through many of these situations throughout my career,” he said. “Many people think a specific result in the first leg is crucial, but I believe there’s no definitive result.”

As Benfica gears up to host the Spanish champions once again, Mourinho’s message is clear. His team does not need a miracle, but they must come close to perfection to take down a determined Real Madrid.
