Supreme Court Approves Temporary Bail for Vikram Bhatt and Wife in Rs. 30 Crore Fraud Saga

Supreme Court Grants Interim Bail to Vikram Bhatt and Wife in Cheating Case

On Friday, the Supreme Court of India granted interim bail to filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife, Shwetambari Bhatt. This decision comes in relation to a cheating case involving ₹30 crore, registered in Rajasthan. The couple had previously approached the court after the Rajasthan High Court denied their bail.

The bench, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi, made its ruling after hearing arguments from both sides. The allegations stem from claims that funds meant for film production were misused. The complaint was filed by Dr. Ajay Murdia, who is connected to the Indira Group of Companies, known for its fertility chain and entertainment ventures.

Reports indicate that the Bhatt couple was arrested in December 2025 and held in judicial custody. Following their bail rejection by the Jodhpur Bench of the Rajasthan High Court on January 31, they sought relief from the Supreme Court.

During the hearing, Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing the couple, questioned the rationale behind imposing severe consequences on directors and their spouses. The state opposed the plea, emphasizing the seriousness of the ₹30 crore fraud. Justice Bagchi raised concerns about using criminal law for financial disputes.

The Supreme Court issued a notice and allowed Vikram and Shwetambari Bhatt to be released on interim bail upon the completion of necessary formalities. The court also directed that the Rajasthan government respond, and the owner of Indira Entertainment LLP be included as a party in the case for his input.

The matter is set for further consideration on February 19, when the court will review the responses from the involved parties.
