Gautam Gambhir Dodges Question on Pakistan’s T20 World Cup Boycott
India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, decided not to comment on Pakistan’s recent stance about possibly boycotting matches against India in the T20 World Cup 2026. While at the airport heading to Mumbai for a warm-up match against South Africa, Gambhir was asked about the issue but chose to walk on without answering.
Before the questioning began, Gambhir expressed his gratitude to reporters for their support of the Indian team as they prepare for the tournament.
In a recent development, the Pakistan government has allowed its cricket team to participate in the World Cup but has not given permission for a match against India. This decision has stirred discussions about the financial and sporting impact of an India vs. Pakistan game during such a high-profile event.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has not yet received any formal word from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) regarding the supposed boycott. However, the ICC has already warned that serious consequences could arise if the scheduled match does not take place.
As for India, the team remains focused on their training sessions. They will face South Africa in a warm-up game, ahead of the tournament starting on February 7. India and Pakistan are both in the same group along with Namibia, the Netherlands, and the USA, with their much-anticipated match set for February 15 in Colombo.
In addition to their upcoming warm-up matches on February 4, where Pakistan will take on Ireland, both teams are eager to start the tournament on a positive note.
