Capgemini to Sell Subsidiary Amid Controversy Over ICE Operations

PARIS: French technology company Capgemini announced on Sunday that it will be selling a subsidiary that has been working with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency. This decision comes in light of ongoing concerns regarding the deaths of two individuals during ICE operations, which has sparked international criticism.

Capgemini, a significant player in France’s economy with a presence in around 50 countries, held an extraordinary board meeting over the weekend. This was in response to questions raised in parliament and demands for more transparency from the government.

The attention on Capgemini intensified after it was revealed that its American subsidiary had a contract with ICE to help identify and track foreign nationals in the U.S. The deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti at the hands of ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents in Minneapolis have led to widespread backlash against the agency.

Capgemini stated that the subsidiary in question contributes only a small fraction—0.4 percent—of its projected global revenue for 2025 and less than 2 percent of its U.S. earnings. In a message to employees earlier this week, the company clarified that the contentious contract, awarded last December, is currently under appeal.
