Shubman Gill Stands Up for Jadeja and Kuldeep After India’s ODI Setback Against New Zealand

Gill Supports Jadeja and Kuldeep After Tough Series Against New Zealand

India’s cricket captain, Shubman Gill, showed his support for teammates Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav after a disappointing ODI series against New Zealand. Both players struggled on the field—Jadeja failed to take any wickets and Kuldeep allowed 182 runs over 25 overs, with a high economy rate of 7.28.

Jadeja’s batting has also raised concerns. He hasn’t scored a fifty in India for over 13 years, with his last significant score of 61 occurring back in 2013 against England in Kochi. As an all-rounder batting at No. 6, expectations for him are high. His inability to hold on to his wicket during crucial moments, such as when Virat Kohli was scoring well, added to the team’s woes.

In a post-match press conference, Gill praised Jadeja’s recent batting form, but acknowledged that many of the Indian players struggled to capitalize on good starts. He pointed out how critical it is for batters to convert their initial successes into significant scores, especially on home turf where high scores are common.

Kuldeep’s Tough Time on the Field

Kuldeep has been a key wicket-taker for India over the past few years, and 2023 was one of his best years with 49 wickets in 30 matches. However, during the series against New Zealand, he found it challenging. Notably, Daryl Mitchell was particularly effective against him. Gill noted that while it’s unfortunate Kuldeep couldn’t secure more wickets, such situations are part of the game.

He emphasized that Kuldeep has been bowling well and that this experience, while tough, can help him learn and grow as a player.

In summary, both Jadeja and Kuldeep have faced challenges, but with the right support and perseverance, there’s hope for improvement as the team moves forward.
