Vaibhav Suryavanshi Breaks Youth ODI Record But Misses Century Against Bangladesh
In an exciting match on January 17 during the U19 World Cup 2026, Vaibhav Suryavanshi surpassed Virat Kohli’s record for most runs scored for India in Youth ODIs. The talented opener was playing against Bangladesh when he scored 72 runs but unfortunately missed out on a century.
Since making waves in the IPL last season with a remarkable century for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans, Suryavanshi has quickly risen in the cricket world. In just 20 Youth ODI matches, he has scored three centuries and five fifties, boasting an impressive average of over 52 and a strike rate of 157.68.
However, Suryavanshi’s journey in the U19 World Cup began on a rough note when he managed just two runs in the opening game against the USA. This setback meant he needed only six more runs to break Kohli’s long-standing record.
As of now, Suryavanshi stands at 1047 runs, placing him behind Sarfaraz Khan with 1080 runs, and he’s also chasing Vijay Zol, who leads with 1404 runs. Here’s a look at the top run-scorers for India in Youth ODIs:
- Vijay Zol – 1404 runs
- Yashasvi Jaiswal – 1386 runs
- Tanmay Srivastava – 1316 runs
- Shubman Gill / Unmukt Chand – 1149 runs
- Sarfaraz Khan – 1080 runs
- Vaibhav Suryavanshi – 1047 runs
- Virat Kohli – 978 runs
Suryavanshi’s performance against Bangladesh showcased his skills and confidence. Despite losing his captain, Ayush Mhatre, and teammate Vedant Trivedi early in the innings, he remained aggressive, scoring 15 runs in the 8th over. He reached his fifty in just 30 balls, becoming the youngest player to achieve such a milestone in U19 World Cup history. Unfortunately, his innings concluded when he was caught off Iqbal Hossain Emon’s bowling.
As the tournament progresses, cricket fans will surely keep an eye on Suryavanshi and his journey, hoping he can soon reach new heights.
