Actor Akshaye Khanna is making a comeback in the sequel to the hit film Dhurandhar, titled Dhurandhar 2, despite his character’s demise in the first movie. Reports indicate that he will shoot special scenes designed to enhance his character’s background, which will take place over a week. The sequel is set to hit theaters on March 19, 2026.
The original Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, was a box office triumph and received praise for its engaging story and strong performances. Khanna’s role as Rehman Dakait, a complex villain, struck a chord with audiences, sparking significant online discussion and fan interest.
Though Rehman Dakait met his end in the first film, the creative team for Dhurandhar 2 aims to delve into his backstory with select scenes showcasing earlier moments in his timeline. This fresh material is being filmed shortly, according to sources.
Additionally, the report notes that the main filming for Dhurandhar 2 was completed before the decision to include Khanna for these extra segments was made. His return seems to be motivated by audience interest and the goal of expanding on Rehman’s character, rather than reversing the events of the first installment.
The sequel is anticipated to broaden the espionage universe established in the original film, continuing the journey of Hamza Ali Mazari, the undercover agent portrayed by Ranveer Singh. The film also stars notable actors like Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal, and will be released in multiple languages across the country.
