What Happened in Minneapolis?
The incident occurred when an ICE agent shot the woman after authorities claimed she attempted to drive her vehicle toward law enforcement officers. According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the shooting took place in a residential neighborhood. DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin confirmed that the shot was fired by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer.
Statements from DHS Secretary Kristi Noem
During a press conference on January 8, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem described the shooting as an act of “domestic terrorism.” She emphasized that the agent acted in line with his training. Indian Population in Minneapolis
A survey conducted by Neilsberg indicates that the Indian population in Minneapolis is projected to be around 4,703 by 2025, accounting for approximately 1.10% of the city’s total population. This serves to highlight the importance of such incidents to the Indian diaspora in the United States.
